Prepware Commercial Pilot App Reviews

Good product

I have the books from ASA. I have a competing Windows product that requires Internet to function. This product allowed me to work on memorizing items needed for the written no matter where I was or if I had any connections. And it allowed me to run a practice test, but I needed the test supplement (which I have). Im now signed off to schedule and take the real one, because of being able to study when I could (very busy person who is on-call). I couldnt do that w/ the competitors product.

Just another question engine

The app allows test or study mode. For me the study mode is what is important and what is woefully inadequate in this app. There is no ability to choose specific subject codes with which to study, nor the ability to vary the number of questions you want to study from that subject code. Save your money and choose one of the cheap apps for FAA testing.

Handy, simple.

Its nice, but really needs a way to bookmark certain questions for later review.

VERY Disappointed.

This app simply under-delivers. Its a programmer s 5-minute hack job app. It just displays questions and gives answers, with pretty bad formatting in display in many cases. There is no way to save state! Theres no way to go back and focus on questions that you missed! Theres no history or flow. ASA should be ASHAMED. One can only hope they have a desire for pride and will deliver updates very quickly.

Great for Practice Tests

Some of what I expected; to be able to take pop practice tests. I did expect some basic functionality though. 1. Be able to access previous tests or at least the test currently in progress. I have hit the "back" button on the top left accidentally in the middle of every single test, which takes me back to the home screen with no test to return to. Then i have to start all over again. This happened most often after having hit the back button coming out of a figure, the button is in the same place. Some of us go tap crazy. 2. Be able to send results to email or a printer. My instructor asked for 3 practice test results so that he can evaluate if I am ready to take the real test and endorse me. 3. Can you include a mini calculator within the app? How about an E6B? This is not basic, but it would make sense to have given the nature of the app.

Lousy

I just bought the Prepware app and the stem of the very first question I came across is incomplete. I would like my money back. Would NOT recommend.

Missing info

This app is OK but not complete. Some questions are missing info Like TAS without which the question cannot be answered. ASA needs to go through the questions again and clean up missing info. Also, in test mode there is no 2hr timer and there is no CX-2 computer built in.

Good one to study

nice

Great app!

My university uses prepware for preparing us for our written exams, and the mobile version of prepare is a great alternative to having to sit at a desk. I can study for my test wherever I go. I used the instrument version to help me prepare for the written, and now the commercial is helping me prepare.

Save your money...

Horrible... Lots on incomplete questions and answers, also exact repeats of some questions. Save your money and dont buy this!

Commercial

Question bank and method of review is done well. However there needs to be a way to save progress or have the program remember what you have done. It would also be much better if you could track test progress. Until this is fixed I will not buy other ASA products since there are numerous free versions on the web.

back button missing

When viewing figures, unable to return to the question due to missing back button. Please fix, ASAP. Thanks.

ASA great, FAA not so great.

This series of ASA prepware is extremely useful. ASA does a great job of providing learning materials for FAA exams both digitally and on paper. Unfortunately the FAA does an efficient job of ruining their own tests by having faulty questions. I just took an exam where the answer claims that the sum of all lifting forces are equal to the sum of all downward forces on a descending aircraft. Either the Administrators had better fix these filthy mistakes or Im flat out wrong and should forfeit my Private certificate.

Helped me get a 99%

It did what its supposed to do...sure there were a few questions that were new...but they were of the same format, just different values.

Descent

Its avery basic app that is just a digital version of the written test prep book. Theres learning mode and the exam mode. For the questions that require pictures (maps, images of RMI/VOR/etc) the resolution is good and readig them is relatively easy. In study mode the question are organize in categories. Annoying problem: more often than not, when app is exited with home button or interrupted by a phone call or push notification it loses the position in the study or exam and you have to start from the beginning. The "Save and Exit" function works, but I think it should do "save" after every "next" button press: its doesnt add any delay and it makes sure your progress is not lost. Id also add a function to change font size. The default font size is good and readable, but +-10% adjustments would be welcome. For "Explanations", Id like to see not only what the correct answer is, but also why other answers are definitely wrong. Fix the progress loss after exiting the app!

Questions incomplete

I encountered a number of incomplete questions with missing graphics, incorrect spellings, incorrect answers e.g. that a beacon is REQUIRED for all operations, when the explanation refers to the AIM stating that a beacon is RECOMMENDED for all operations. How can you trust other questions and answers? Very poorly done ...

Just passed my test today!

I took the Commercial written exam today and passed easily by only using this app. Yes, there were about six of 100 questions on the actual exam that were not in this pool of questions. Although they were a surprise the other 94 questions were here to study from. Also the order of the answers are different in most cases. Again, not a big deal. Ive used the Sportys app for Private and Instrument but so far I like Prepware better other then you cannot go back to see your saved completed tests. Prepware is simple but works well.

So far so good.

Works well. Great practice and prep tool. Andiminius: perhaps you went on to your commercial and learned that in a stabilized, un-accelerated flight condition, all forces are equal, regardless of being in a decent, climb, or level flight. Dont forfeit your license. :)

Good overall but wish there were more options

Build an option to save your test results so you can review with your CFI!!! Most CFIs require 3 consecutive test scores of 90% and higher before they will give you an endorsement to take the exam. I screen shot mine for proof, but it would be nice to save all three tests so the CFI can go over the missed questions with you. Add a search function so you can review missed questions from the FAA written like they have in the paper version of prepware. If these options were available I would pay $15-$20 per rating . This would be a 5 star app if these added options were included. I got an 86 on my written with 3 consecutive 90s on this app. You are not using all your resources if you fail to include this app in your pre written prep.

Borderline useless

You can’t mark questions, the second you exit out if the app it resets any progress you’ve made. Yes even the “save and exit” function does nothing at all. Whats the point of having an option there at all? Have you guys actually reviewed the functionality of this awful app? Please do not waste your money on this. The questions are completely outdated to, most will not appear on your FAA written. The only reason I have this is my joke of a ground school uses this question bank. $10 would have been better spent else where. Stick with sheppard air.

Not bad

Id say about maybe 50% the questions are in the real bank. 15% of questions are similar to real ones but still different. The rest are not on the test. But still a good study tool. For the price, I would still just say use Sheppard air instead.

Missing a bunch of information

It does not have all the questions for the written exam. Some of the information is wrong according to Sheppard Air questions. I would not use this as you only study tool for the test.

Good question bank, but useless app

The bank of questions will be updated and is thorough. The app on the other hand is missing substantial features. Please implement a “favorites” tab. A place where “marked” questions will be collected across all sections until manually deleted. This would enable the user to study the questions that are important to him/her without having to search through every section. To bridge the lack of this feature, I had to do it cave man style. Screenshot the questions I struggled with and work through picture gallery afterwards. It would not be a lot of effort to creat that feature.

Horrible

Out of date, only 20% of the questions are from the actual test

Prepware is the best cheapest resource that gets me all I need!

Other review seems to be talking about how your study style works. I love this app because it has all of the questions I need and it divides them into manageable chunks that I can knock out in about 15-30 minute sessions.

You get what you pay for.

The app used to be decent when they told you the correct answer, now it marks questions as incorrect and gives you an explanation, but sometimes doesn’t explicitly state what answer is correct. I wouldn’t be using this app if my flight school didn’t base their tests on it. Complete waste of time. I’ve heard from a few people they didn’t see half of the questions from the written on ASA. Just go with dauntless, it’s more expensive but well worth the money.

Good

ASA always provides great information!

Finally !

Thank you so much for finally darkening the background. This just makes it a lot more comfortable to read through the questions

I passed my written but no thanks to this app...

I studied using this app for about two months before taking my written test today. About 40 percent of the questions were exact. The majority of the questions will give you an idea of what is actually on the FAA written, but the exact questions are different. To give an example, I was getting 90 percent and above all week using the practice test on the app, but on the actual written test, I scored a 72...

DO NOT PURCHASE!!!!

Do not buy this app. I read every single question and studied for 3 weeks using this app for my commercial written test. I was super confident I was going to score in the high 90s. I ended up with a 73%. Very disappointed. Shepard Air is the way to go. It more expensive but well worth it.

Out of date and not close to actual commercial Written!!

Questions out of date, wrong answers.

Good quiz app, but seems kinda broken

Overall very good for quizzing and testing yourself. However, the “save quiz” feature seems completely useless. You also can’t skip between questions in a specific category. (ie. If there’s 100 aerodynamics questions, you just have to cycle through all of them randomly with no reference numbers) This app could use a bit of an upgrade for user-friendliness

Not optimized for iPhone X

It works on the iPhone X but app screen is smaller, it doesn't take advantage of iPhone full screen. I'll update this after checking the questions.

Inaccurate

I studied all of the question in this software, got high scores on the simulated test, but the day of my commercial written I noticed that all of the questions were different! This is not up to date.

App needs one more mode

It would be nice if this app had a practice test that graded you on the fly.

Scored 85% on Commercial Rotorcraft Test Using Only ASA

Today is March 3, 2018. Took my test today and passed with 85%. I answered correctly every question on the test that was similar to or word for word identical to ASAs question bank. Therefore, I'd say ASAs test bank is roughly 85% effective. This prepare did not cover dew point/lapse rate/VOR-HSI questions very well so I missed most of those. Overall this is worth the money.

Progress not saved and several other issues

- I have lost my study progress multiple times by now which is super frustrating if in the middle of a long section where I want to be sure I saw every question at least once I switch to another app and then back to this app and it sometimes jumps back to the main screen instead of the active study session with no “Resume” button, so progress is lost. Kicking the questions off for that question again will randomly mix them up even in study mode so I need to start from scratch. At the very least default to no mix-up of the study questions, and if some users want to study randomly then by all means give them that option as a setting. - Also, jumping back and forth between the questions and the reference material is quite awkward when there are several parameters to be kept in mind; there should be a better way of designing the app on the iPad. - The section with the explanation of the correct response is too small and oftentimes requires awkward scrolling even for short explanations. - Lastly, the graded quizzes are not being recorded so I can’t see my progress over time. Such functionality should be a given in any training software. The only reason this software gets two stars and not just one from me is that the questions are being kept up-to-date.

Questions out of Date

I just took my written today and passed with an 80%. The problem was that out of the 105 questions, the vast majority were not in ASA's app. I was easily scoring in the 90s on practice teats using the app. I risked failing because of ASA. I will never use ASA prep ware again.

Missing test questions..

I just took my commercial knowledge exam and luckily passed by a hair because I depended too much on this app. I used this app religiously as a study aid. I was getting consistently 90% and above on the practice tests on this app. To my unpleasant surprise today, the actual commercial airplane knowledge exam had many, many questions that are NOT covered by this app! I am so lucky I still passed albeit not by much. So just a warning to everyone preparing for their written... don't rely on just memorizing test questions! Good luck...

Not good

Terrible app - provides questions with limited explanation. Guess at the question then read the explanation. Not a good learning tool. Looking for a "textbook" style not let's guess at the question then read the explanation.

OK App

The questions are helpful. But there is no way to save the quiz or test results to go back later to review questions you missed. It says you can save and exit and there will be a resume button on the home screen. Not on my app

Good product

I have the books from ASA. I have a competing Windows product that requires Internet to function.
